I just finished Sloppy Firsts. Now let me start by saying that this book was nothing like I expected. I had read the back in the bookstore and it said things like, "When her best friend moves away from Pineville, sixteen year old Jessica Darling is devastated.", and " How is she supposed to deal with the boy- and shopping- crazy girls at school, her dads obsession with her track meets, and her mother salivating over her big sisters lavish wedding?" I was expecting a nice censored peek into the life of a sixteen year old high school girl dealing with drama and crushes. 

What I wasn’t expecting was the "C" word thrown around with a few "GD's" in the mix. A whole bunch more sex than I thought I would have found in a teenagers book. Then I remember I didn’t find this in the teen section. I found it in the fiction section. That explains a lot. 

So it’s about a girl named Jessica Darling and her best friend Hope just moved very far away. Jessica is addicted to running track and her dad is herself appointed coach. Its seems to be all he cares about. Her mother doesn’t seem to accept who she is and doesn’t really try to find out, her sister is just a total bitch, but Jessica points that out a few times in the book for you. 

It’s a great weekend read with an ending exciting enough to make you want to go get the next one. Apparently there are five out. I am interested in how the story unfolds in the next one, but I’m not chomping at the bit, clubbing old ladies, running to my nearest bookstore to get it. I figure I’ll grab it next time I’m there, but I’m not going to make a special trip. I would recommend you read this as long as you don’t have any other books you would rather read. 

Now don’t get me wrong, I liked it, and maybe the second book will make me a diehard fan, but I would rate this book 6 out of 10. A bit harsh since I would pretty much read anything, but it has all the fixings to make you realize and notice this is the first try at the character.

Shiver

May I just say...SHIVER WAS AN AMAZING BOOK!! I couldn't put it down. I am a few days late of writing my review, but I finished it in under two days. It was a great story line and the writing style was phenomenal how it bounces between two characters but never loses or confuses you. 

Its about a girl who has been watching the wolves in her back yard for her entire life, every winter they are there at the tree line watching back. She is so mesmerized by the one with the golden eyes. She calls him "her wolf". Summer seems to drag on for her because she doesn't see them when the temperature rises. 

I have heard mixed reviews, some saying it was great, some saying its a one sided version of the Twilight series with a better ending. I can see both sides. I am wanting to research when it was written and maybe what imspired it. The next book in the series comes out in June 2010 and I cant wait to read it. Im going to read an excerpt now!! 

The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones is about a girl who was raped and murdered and goes to her heaven, where if she can imagine it, it will happen. It can be whatever she wants. It turns out that this heaven is only for people who aren’t done with what’s going on on Earth. She can’t move on to heaven until she feels all her questions are answered and her curiosities resolved. She is the only one who knows who killed her and she tries to help her family figure it out. 

It is a beautifully written book and in the back is an excerpt from Alice Sebold's next book. As soon as they are in stock at Barnes and Nobles I will be there to get it!

The Lucky One

I am in love with this book. It was such an amazing book! I was a bit skeptical at first because I had never read any of his books, just seen his movies and I wasn’t that big of a fan of them. Within the first two chapters I couldn’t put it down. I actually finished it yesterday morning but this is the first time I’ve been able to sign on. 

The book takes place in a small town called Hampton, and the story is centered around a man named Logan Thibault. He was away in the military and he found a picture in the sand in the desert, after posting it up on the bulletin board for a month he took it back and gave himself the job of finding the woman in the picture. 

He held onto the picture the rest of the time in the military and a lot of people seemed to think it was his good luck charm. Once he returned to the states he set off on a journey to find this woman, all he knew about her was that her first initial was E and she lived in the Carolinas. 

After not knowingly running into "E"'s ex husband who turns out to be sheriff of the county he is in, he starts showing her picture around bars and pool halls to try to find her. Unfortunately it being such a small town, one of them men he showed her picture too happened to be best friends with the sheriff, who immediately went to Thibault and told him to get out of town. After a new job, some dog training and shag dancing lessons, the sheriff starts to realize getting Thibault out of town won’t be an easy task. 

This is a great weekend read, I say weekend because if you start it during the week you won’t be able to put it down, therefore missing work and school and getting fired. Nobody wants that. So in conclusion I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. 

Well...that kinda sucked.

So as you all know I bought "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" the other day. I got about two chapters in and I really dont know whats going on. The whole zombies part confuses the heck out of you. Ive only ever seen P & P the movie.
Never read the original.
So in a state of confusion I drug myself back to Barnes and Nobles yesterday and got the original P&P. Im hoping that if I can read the original then the zombie one it will be more understandable.
On my way out I saw a new book by Nicholas Sparks called The Lucky One.
I started reading it in the store and am already very interested. So I will be reading this one first.
Hopefully nothing better comes along after The Lucky One, if so, Pride and Prejudice will be pushed back again.   :)

Starting a new book...with a twist.

So last night I was walking around Barnes and Nobles and I knew that I would be finished with all of J. A. Jance's books by this morning, so I start looking for a new book that might captivate my interest as well as Jance did. I walked all through fiction, all through suspense, all through mystery and found nothing that grabbed me. As I almost admitted defeat my best friend directed me to the "Classics" table.

I'm not big into classics, I feel as if I don't quite understand them. I think its the way they speak. Dont get me wrong, its beautiful the way theyre words flow together, but sometimes the words they use confuse the heck out of me.

So back to my book hunt.

Were standing at the table and there are all the Jane Austen books, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility etc. As I was reading the titles to see if they interested me I realized that they are a little different than the original classics. I ended up choosing Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Graham-Smith.

Its a quirky twist to the originals. I'm really excited to start it and I hope I can get into it better than the original!! Wish me luck, ill let you know how it goes soon!

Day if the Dead

     This is the third installation of the Brandon Walker/Diana Ladd series. The past two books have made me think that the series was about Diana rather than Brandon, but after doing a search for the cover I found out its a mixed main character book. I had gotten bored in the last book by the Indian stories and the drawn out plot line and almost gave up on it. When I started this one though it was instantly better than the last. This one was about an old colleague of Brandon’s wanted him to join a retired sheriffs group to reinvestigate cold cases that the departments didn’t have time for or the financial backing to do so. They reopened a case that leads them through years of lies and affairs and ultimately ends poorly. Many of the characters you have grown accustomed to take on their own roles in this book, whether it is a new mother, a new doctor or an almost widowed wife. The Indian stories seemed to be toned down a bit in this book. The stories coincided with the main story a lot better than the previous book and everything seemed to flow a lot better.

     That was the last book in the 72 books J. A. Jance has written. I’m slightly sad that I have to move on to new stories and new authors. She will always be one of my favorites and you better believe I will be first in line as soon as her next book comes out.

Kiss Of The Bees- J.A. Jance

It is January 5th. I have just finished Kiss of the Bees and am a little disheartened. The first book had kept my attention very well, I was really excited for the second one. It was a 20 year jump forward and I think thats what threw off the characters. It didn't really get into in depth detail why people don't get along, or moved away, or even came into the picture. The end of the book was by far the best part. It sped up, was action packet, and actually seemed to make sense. 
At the beginning of each chapter is a short story from the Tohono O'odham, and those old Indian stories in a way relate to whats going on in present time with the characters in the book. While J.A Jance is one of my favorite writers, I have to admit this isn't one of my favorite series's she has done. I have started it though and only have one more book to go so I have to finish it. Day of the Dead review will be available soon!

Hello 2010!

This is my first post and I just want to give you a run down on what this blog is going to be about. I read books, ALOT of books. I go through a 400 page book in about a day in a half. Once I find an author and character I like I follow them till the series is either finished, or they haven come out with a new one yet. I have a few favorite authors. My favorite genre would be suspense and crime/mystery. Both fictional. I want to keep this blog because I read so much I have a tendency to forget which book was about what and it doesn't really sink in. It kind of just blurs together like a movie when in actuality its about 18 books. So this is just to organize my thoughts into something that I can look back on and maybe get feedback on recommendations and such. Enjoy!
