4 More Books...

I haven't been able to post lately as I finish the books, so heres a quick rundown of the books I have finished since the last post. I'm still not doing a review because it will spoil things for you!!

Man im so addicted! I'm about to be at the end though, if you have any good recommendations let me know!

Living Dead In Dallas (SSSVM)

I finished this book about an hour ago and already have started on the next one. I cant really review it because it will give too much away. I probably wont say much on each of the rest, I just need to post about them somewhat so I can keep track and reach my goal of 100 books in 2010. Read this series!!

Dead Until Dark (SSSVM)

This is the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries (SSSVM).
It was amazing. I read it in just over 14 hours. Factor in 6 hours of sleep b*tches!
It was a great read and I cant wait to read the next one. I cant tell you much, or it will give it away. I love the way that vampires and humans are allowed to interact and that when a vampire bites, you don't automatically turn into a vamp. AND THEY DON'T FREAKING SPARKLE!! (no offense to the Twi-hards out there, it was a great movie/book, but I wasn't a fan of the sparkling.) The bottled blood is a great idea, but it kinda grosses me out. I definitely recommend this book. Thanks Sara for guiding me to this series!!

Second Helpings

Holy Cow! That book is finally over! Why is it authors write books that are SO FREAKING BORING in the beginning and middle and towards then end, it exceed every expectation you could have of it. WHY DID THE END GET SO GOOD!!! Damn. Now im going to go get the third one. I could kick myself. At this rate im never going to get through 100 books in a year. My OCD wont let me put this series down now that im halfway through. I think that the story drags, the characters are crazy and the layout of the book is diary style (not a big fan of), but damn the end of this one made me want to read the next one. Im not going to tell you what its about but im not going to recommend it unless you like diary style writing from a girl in high school perspective whos best friend moves away and the fact that she never thinks shes going to lose her virginity.

I just finished Sloppy Firsts. Now let me start by saying that this book was nothing like I expected. I had read the back in the bookstore and it said things like, "When her best friend moves away from Pineville, sixteen year old Jessica Darling is devastated.", and " How is she supposed to deal with the boy- and shopping- crazy girls at school, her dads obsession with her track meets, and her mother salivating over her big sisters lavish wedding?" I was expecting a nice censored peek into the life of a sixteen year old high school girl dealing with drama and crushes. 

What I wasn’t expecting was the "C" word thrown around with a few "GD's" in the mix. A whole bunch more sex than I thought I would have found in a teenagers book. Then I remember I didn’t find this in the teen section. I found it in the fiction section. That explains a lot. 

So it’s about a girl named Jessica Darling and her best friend Hope just moved very far away. Jessica is addicted to running track and her dad is herself appointed coach. Its seems to be all he cares about. Her mother doesn’t seem to accept who she is and doesn’t really try to find out, her sister is just a total bitch, but Jessica points that out a few times in the book for you. 

It’s a great weekend read with an ending exciting enough to make you want to go get the next one. Apparently there are five out. I am interested in how the story unfolds in the next one, but I’m not chomping at the bit, clubbing old ladies, running to my nearest bookstore to get it. I figure I’ll grab it next time I’m there, but I’m not going to make a special trip. I would recommend you read this as long as you don’t have any other books you would rather read. 

Now don’t get me wrong, I liked it, and maybe the second book will make me a diehard fan, but I would rate this book 6 out of 10. A bit harsh since I would pretty much read anything, but it has all the fixings to make you realize and notice this is the first try at the character.

Shiver

May I just say...SHIVER WAS AN AMAZING BOOK!! I couldn't put it down. I am a few days late of writing my review, but I finished it in under two days. It was a great story line and the writing style was phenomenal how it bounces between two characters but never loses or confuses you. 

Its about a girl who has been watching the wolves in her back yard for her entire life, every winter they are there at the tree line watching back. She is so mesmerized by the one with the golden eyes. She calls him "her wolf". Summer seems to drag on for her because she doesn't see them when the temperature rises. 

I have heard mixed reviews, some saying it was great, some saying its a one sided version of the Twilight series with a better ending. I can see both sides. I am wanting to research when it was written and maybe what imspired it. The next book in the series comes out in June 2010 and I cant wait to read it. Im going to read an excerpt now!! 

The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones is about a girl who was raped and murdered and goes to her heaven, where if she can imagine it, it will happen. It can be whatever she wants. It turns out that this heaven is only for people who aren’t done with what’s going on on Earth. She can’t move on to heaven until she feels all her questions are answered and her curiosities resolved. She is the only one who knows who killed her and she tries to help her family figure it out. 

It is a beautifully written book and in the back is an excerpt from Alice Sebold's next book. As soon as they are in stock at Barnes and Nobles I will be there to get it!
